RAPPORT The XML Benchmark Project

چکیده
With standardization e orts of a query language for XML documents drawing to a close, researchers and users increasingly focus their attention on the database technology that has to deliver on the new challenges that the sheer amount of XML documents produced by applications pose to data management: validation, performance evaluation and optimization of XML query processors are the upcoming issues. Following a long tradition in database research, the XML Store Benchmark Project provides a framework to assess an XML database's abilities to cope with a broad spectrum of di erent queries, typically posed in real-world application scenarios. The benchmark is intended to help both implementors and users to compare XML databases independent of their own, speci c application scenario. To this end, the benchmark o ers a set queries each of which is intended to challenge a particular primitive of the query processor or storage engine. The overall workload we propose consists of a scalable document database and a concise, yet comprehensive set of queries, which covers the major aspects of query processing. The queries' challenges range from stressing the textual character of the document to data analysis queries, but include also typical ad-hoc queries. We complement our research with results obtained from running the benchmark on our XML database platform. They are intended to give a rst baseline, illustrating the state of the art. 1998 ACM Computing Classi cation System: [H.2.1] Logical Design (Data Models), [H.2.3] Languages (Query Languages),) [H.2.4] Database Systems, (Query Processing)

Benchmarking XML Databases: New TPoX Benchmark Results Available
TPoX stands for “Transaction Processing over XML” and is an XML database benchmark that Intel and IBM developed several years ago and then released as open source. A couple of months ago, the project published some new results. (http://nativexmldatabase.com/2011/03/04/new-tpox-benchmark-results-available/) To learn more about this I interviewed the main leaders of the TPoX project, Dr. Matthias...
متن کاملA Look Back on the XML Benchmark Project
Database vendors and researchers have been responding to the establishing of XML [6] as the premier data interchange language for Internet applications with the integration of XML processing capabilities into Database Management Systems. The new features fall into two categories: XML-enabled interfaces allow the DBMS to speak and understand XML formats, whereas XML extensions add novel primitiv...

متن کاملXPathMark An XPath benchmark for XMark
We propose XPathMark, an XPath benchmark for XMark. It consists of a set of queries which covers the main aspects of the language XPath 1.0. These queries have been designed for XML documents generated under XMark, a popular benchmark for XML data management. We suggest a methodology to evaluate the XPath benchmark on a given XML engine and, by way of example, we evaluate two popular XML engine...
متن کامل
